Yellow Kachina Jazz
In 1992, I designed the informational audio cassette and compact disc insert of "In the Spirit of Crazy Horse: Songs For Leonard Peltier" a CD produced by Four Winds Trading Company, seller of Native American Music, Books & Video. For the next decade or so, I studied indigenous cultures from around the world. One of my favorite experiences from Four Winds was when I met Micky Hart who produced "Planet Drum" a world music album. Mickey Hart was a member of the rock band the Grateful Dead. I remember clearly that Micky said, "Keep the beat alive". Totally hit home. Bringing life about with the beat to music, painting its rhythm with patterns, color and texture, all some of my favorite things to create. It's now the 25th anniversary of the album, and I'm listening to it right now, bringing my presence back to my youth. Awe so sweet, the memories.
