In the middle of painting, the colors might start to get muddy. I have to stop to let dry otherwise it will all become mud and the whole point of my "Bright Lights Pink City" series of oil paintings is to bring joy with vivid colors. My second layer adds more definition overlapping the mud with bright colors to highlight the spires of the Roman Catholic Church, the Chrysler Building, the windows, the limo, cars and curbs of sidewalk.
