That neon purple light around Madison Square Garden is luminescent in my reference photo. I used a translucent glaze to push the darks back to contrast the pink-purplish light. Did you ever hear the phrase, "If you want it to look real, take a photo?" Well, I did both. That's my photo and then I painted it. It gives the impression of shapes with the vivid colors, like the energy of being there.

This oil painting by Lisa Bisbee captures the vibrant energy of Madison Square Garden, the world-famous arena in Manhattan, NYC, using bold colors and expressive brushwork. The circular form of the Garden is depicted with deep purples and blues, contrasted against the fiery oranges, reds, and yellows of the illuminated windows, creating a glowing effect that radiates warmth. The vertical accents on the building emphasize its grand stature, while the curved roofline adds movement to the composition. The surrounding cityscape is alive with brightly lit skyscrapers, their warm tones blending into the night sky, which is rich with deep blues and specks of light. The streets are bustling, featuring classic yellow taxis with bold, impasto brushstrokes that enhance the sense of movement and urban excitement. Streetlights and reflections on the pavement create a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, guiding the viewer’s eye through the lively scene. The artist’s expressive, textured brushwork and vivid color palette transform the iconic venue into a glowing beacon, embodying the electric energy of New York City nightlife. Lisa Bisbee’s signature bold impressionistic style breathes new life into this landmark, offering a mesmerizing and dreamlike interpretation of Madison Square Garden’s iconic presence in the heart of Manhattan.
