In the details I outline with the shadow line of black and the black isn’t really black, it’s ultramarine blue mixed with burnt sienna. I wanted it to be a night scene so this dark purple really helps everything pop off the canvas. Plus the contrast of Gapka’s brand of neon fluorescent yellow is perfect for the lit interiors and street lights.
"Put me down" I say to Uncle Harold. We're walking to the pub and he lifts me up and turns me upside-down. I was eleven and completely embarrassed, and now I find the memory to be a good reminder of how self-conscious young teens may be. When we get to the pub, it's all adults and they are laughing and it's loud, and I'm sitting there wondering if this is what adulthood will be for me? And yes, as an adult, we visited a pub or two on our voyage to London.
