I chose the color of the sky to be Pantone's Peach Fuzz, 2024 Color of the Year. Starting the oil painting with a thin script liner brush, I create the contour line drawing. My favorite part is filling it in with all the colors, called "blocking in".
I captured the photo for reference on our way to Brooklyn Botanic Garden to experience the solar eclipse. My uncle worked at the Botanical Garden when he was a college student and I was excited to see his contributions. On route we passed all these adorable little two-story townhouses with you guessed it, brownstones. And here's a fun fact of trivia, when the brownstones are quarried from the earth, they are actually pink, overtime they turn brown as the hematite iron ore in the stone oxidizes.
