Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London is a reconstruction of the an Elizabethan playhouse first built in 1599. I saw "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern" in a live theatre when I was a teen. The play was based on the characters from Shakespeare's "Hamlet" and in opening scene, they flip a coin over and over, always seeming to end up "Heads" and it went on for about five minutes of flipping the coin. What are the chances? I believe 50/50 regardless of statistics may predict. Anyway, back to Shakespeare whose words taught me that the English language has evolved over time, and being a history nerd, I love watching the ol' movies with ol' English in the mix and one of my favorites is "A Knight's Tale" in which Geoffrey Chaucer shows up as a scribe (the author of "The Canterbury Tales"). So to say that I love this building is not enough, which is why I paint it.
I’m sure Shakespeare never would’ve anticipated these colors. Randomly place colors. Something like a dream. Getting a straight line on these textured canvases is not easy. I don’t mind them a bit warbled or crooked, it just highlights the texture. My favorite part of this is the thatched roof.
