I change the atmosphere of a painting by adding a thin translucent glaze. Some artists use toxic mediums to thin out the pigment, instead I use walnut oil as a medium. I cover every inch except the green trees, happy little trees just like Bob Ross used to say. I captured this reference photo while crossing over the Williamsburg Bridge and of course, traffic slows down to a halt, and I was grateful because there was the composition waiting for me to paint. I snapped the photo of both the Chrysler and Empire State buildings in the same shot. Yeah, there were at a distance away, but with the magic of my paintbrush, I distorted the proportions to get more details of the iconic buildings.
